How to Use LM Communications: Prepay, Message, Call, and Control Costs
Use private LMOS text and mail, fund a prepaid communications wallet, understand the 10× provider-cost model, and start audio, video, or optional phone-network calls only when paid credit is available.
Built for LMOS users, teams, creators, churches, small businesses, and organizations that want private app communication without surprise carrier or media bills.
You will understand which LM Communications features are included, which ones are metered, how prepaid credit works, and why a paid call cannot begin or continue beyond funded usage.
Before you start
LM Text and internal LM Mail are app-native communication features. Live audio, video, recording, and calls to ordinary phone numbers can create direct provider costs, so LMOS treats those services as prepaid usage. Provider rates are verified before public activation and the customer charge is derived from the current cost policy rather than a hidden unlimited promise.
Step 1: Use LM Text or LM Mail for ordinary communication
Use direct messages, team channels, and internal mail-style conversations when everyone is inside LMOS. These features avoid carrier SMS and ordinary phone-network charges.
Step 2: Review the current rate card
Open LM Communications to see the provider baseline, the LM customer rate, the billing unit, and the date of the rate snapshot before buying calling credit.
Step 3: Fund the prepaid wallet
Choose a supported communications top-up. Credit is added only after Stripe confirms a paid checkout, and LMOS keeps a wallet ledger so repeated payment webhooks cannot double-credit the account.
Step 4: Start a paid call only when funded
Before a paid audio, video, recording, or phone-network session starts, LMOS checks available credit and reserves enough for the next authorized usage block.
Step 5: Watch remaining time during the call
The calling layer should show balance or remaining funded time, warn before the next billable block cannot be covered, and stop the paid session instead of creating an unpaid provider bill.
Step 6: Review the wallet history
Use the communications dashboard to see top-ups, reservations, usage charges, releases, and remaining credit so the cost stays understandable.
Make the workflow better
Use in-app text or mail when a live call is unnecessary.
Keep recording off unless it serves a real purpose.
Use audio instead of video when video adds little value.
Treat calls to ordinary phone numbers as a separate telecom service with destination-specific pricing and compliance requirements.
Questions people ask
Can LM Communications bypass phone carriers for normal app-to-app calls?
Yes. App-to-app text, mail, audio, and video can use internet data and push notifications. Calling an ordinary telephone number still requires a telecom provider and its carrier network.
Why is calling prepaid?
Live media and phone-network calling create variable provider costs. The prepaid wallet prevents LMOS from silently absorbing those costs and blocks new paid usage when there is not enough funded credit.
Is the 10× number always the final margin?
No. The communications rate card applies the 10× policy to the listed provider baseline. Payment-processing fees, taxes, regulatory fees, destination surcharges, recording, storage, and optional services can reduce the final margin and are tracked separately.
