LMOS Beta Update: Reference Your Media, Grow the Libraries, Keep the Originals Yours

LM Video is testing a reference-first media model instead of becoming a giant source-file warehouse, LM Podcast can link device or Drive audio, Watch/Listen/Read libraries expand farther, and LM Publishing adds better PDF discovery, traced downloads and reading controls.

Beta test updateThis article documents what is working now, what it can do for users, and the workflow we want real testers to pressure-test.

What changed

  • LM Video now references new local source files instead of uploading camera originals into LM project storage.

  • Desktop browsers that support persistent file handles can reopen approved local references; when a file moves or is renamed, LM shows it as missing and offers individual relink or folder rescan.

  • Folder relinking looks for exact files first and can surface likely renamed matches for confirmation without changing the timeline source identity.

  • Google Drive remains a source option, with the original file remaining in the creator’s own Drive.

  • LM Podcast can now reference existing device audio or Google Drive audio in addition to the existing smaller managed uploads and recordings.

  • LM TV and LM Radio shelves can expand from horizontal discovery rows into full browse grids.

  • Made with LMOS creator shelves now search live by title, creator, category and description and show the creator’s existing profile image when available.

  • LM Publishing can surface owner-uploaded public PDFs from the existing media library alongside books, including description, creator, cover artwork and tracked downloads.

  • Read Aloud now offers a small set of the best English voices the device exposes rather than blindly using the browser default.

  • Page turns use a smoother half-second 3D transition, and adding a book to a shelf gives an animated visual confirmation.

The important storage rule

LM Video is not trying to become a warehouse for every camera original. The project remembers the edit and the source identity. Local files stay local; Drive files stay in the user’s Drive. Existing legacy LM-stored media is still supported so old projects are not stranded.

What download tracing really means

Approved PDF downloads can receive a unique LMOS download ID and a quiet footer at download time while leaving the authoritative uploaded source untouched. That identifies which LMOS download produced a copy. It is not hidden surveillance of an offline PDF and it cannot secretly delete a file from someone’s device after the browser no longer controls it.

Current beta boundaries

  • LM Video remains publicly Coming Soon while the editor is stabilized.

  • Persistent local file handles depend on browser support; phones and some browsers may require relinking after a project is reopened.

  • LM does not use the founder’s personal Google Drive as a shared repository for other members’ private source media. Users should use their own Drive or their own device.

  • Native LM book rentals, sales, payouts, taxes and revocable reader entitlements are not being presented as live until the payment and rights architecture exists.

  • Offline downloaded PDFs cannot be remotely erased or continuously monitored after they leave LMOS.

What testers should try

  • Link several local video files, build a short timeline, close and reopen the project, and confirm supported browsers restore the references.

  • Move or rename one source file and test Relink and folder rescan without rebuilding the timeline.

  • Link a podcast recording from a device or Google Drive, trim it, mix it and export an MP3.

  • Use See all in LM TV and LM Radio and search creator shelves while typing.

  • Upload an owner PDF through the Control Center, add cover art and description, mark it public/downloadable, then confirm it appears in LM Publishing.

  • Download an approved PDF and confirm the copy contains the quiet LMOS download ID while the uploaded original remains unchanged.

  • Try several available Read Aloud voices and the animated shelf/page-turn interactions.
